Fish and chip price dynamics

The price of chips may be on the increase, according to Agrimoney. One of the UK’s major potato processors says that the current harvest is “the lowest yielding and poorest quality crop since 1976″. According to Produce Investments “free-buy prices for potatoes are exceptionally high”, posting double digit prices increases. The latest cold weather conditions in the UK has done little to offer relief to the country’s potato growers.

However…cod prices are down. Cod prices in the Barents Sea are down by almost a quarter during the 12 months to 2012Q4. Cod prices declined on expectations of large supplies as cod quotas increased relative to other fish such as haddock coupled with lower demand in key end markets.
